GL events is a publicly traded company on the Paris Stock Exchange and a leading international name in the organisation of events, the management of expo hubs and the provision of services. Since 2005, GL events has been investing heavily in Italy, which represents the second most important market for the French group, after France.

Around the world, GL events organises more than 2,100 events per year – events that attract more than 30,000 exhibitors and more than 4,000,000 members of the public and corporate representatives. The company owns or manages a total of 34 facilities, including exhibition/conference centres and poly-functional hubs, located everywhere from France and the UK to Hungary, Belgium, Spain, Brazil, the US and China. The group has more than 3,500 employees at its 80 offices, which are situated across 14 countries, including Italy. In 2009 the turnover of GL events amounted to 580 millions euros.

In Italy, GL events operates – as the owner of expo hubs and the organiser of events – through its holding company GL events Italia S.p.A., which currently includes Lingotto Fiere in Turin (a branch of the company recently acquired along with all of its businesses) and Promotor International, a company absorbed through a merger. GL events Italia also owns shares in the Bologna Exhibition Center (of which it has an 8.7% share) and Rimini Exhibition Center (of which it has a 4.2% share).

The expo zone in Turin encompasses 50,000 sqm of indoor exhibition space across 4 interlinked, single-storey exhibition halls. Together with the external areas, the total extent of the available exhibition space exceeds 70,000 sqm. With the Oval – a facility constructed for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, of which GL events assumed the operational management in July 2009 – and with the fifth exhibition hall (set to be constructed over the coming years), the Lingotto Fiere complex will have a total surface area of almost 80,000 sqm. On average, the exhibition halls play host to 25 trade fair events per year, including a number of high-profile international events such as the Salone Internazionale del Libro (International Book Fair), the Salone Internazionale del Gusto (International Fine Food Fair), Artissima (the International Contemporary Art Fair) and Expoferroviaria (the International Railway Technology Fair). 2009 saw the staging of 54 events (including conferences and trade fairs) that attracted 750,000 visitors and 6,877 exhibitors.

In terms of the organisation of trade fairs and events, GL events Italia is active in a number of different sectors, including automotive, through the Bologna Motor Show (460,158 visitors in December 2009) and My Special Car Show in Rimini (80,000 visitors in March 2010), as well as winemaking, with the Wine Show, and construction, with Restructura, both of which are held in Turin. In addition, starting in 2010, GL events sqm will be responsible for the organisation of the Turin International Book Fair, in partnership with the Fondazione per il Libro, la Musica e la Cultura (Foundation for Books, Music and Culture).

Moreover inside GL events Italia is operating Centro Studi Promotor GL events, a specialised research structure on the automobile market estabilished in 1993. The Centro Studi Promotor GL events provides various services, such as the monthly economic report on trends in the new and used automobile market and commercial vehicles, obtained by interviewing a representative sample of Italian dealers and then distributed monthly alongside the publication of the vehicle registration data.

Since 2005, GL events has also been operating in the Veneto region of Italy, through its 80% share in the company that manages the Padua expo zone – the remaining 20% share being owned by public-sector shareholders. The 60,000 sqm PadovaFiere facility includes 11 exhibition halls, located on a 150,000 sqm site. PadovaFiere provides the backdrop for trade fairs, conferences, cultural events and shows, and the calendar of events is split between B2B and B2C initiatives, across a wide range of industry sectors: from plant and flower cultivation to thermohydraulics, from the food and beverage sector to environmental technologies, and from logistics to two- and four-wheeled transport. In 2009, around 700,000 people visited the 19 events organised by PadovaFiere, which saw the participation of 7,500 corporate exhibitors.
